CAISTER KNOCK OUT CUP HOLDERS!!!!
Caister travelled to Pine Banks on Tuesday night to play CS Morley Cup Holders Norwich Union Reserves in the last 16 under floodlight. The novelty of the situation seemed to suit Caister as they were up for the game right from the off. However somewhat against the run of play Union took the lead on 10 minutes as their striker volleyed a cross from Caister’s right into the top of the net. Hollis then had to be on his guard in Caister’s goal to deal with a series of deep crosses and long range efforts as Union got into their stride. On the half-hour after a period of good possession and chances falling for Jarvis and Barry Crane Caister equalised as Thomas Rowley, still up from a corner smashed home from 12 yards. Caister’s pass and move football then started to flow with Crane and Lines pulling the strings in midfield. This lead to a move down Caister’s right involving Barwick then Barry crane with a looping cross which Johnson met on the volley at the far post to put Caister in front just before the break.
Directly from the kick-off in the second half Caister won a corner which was perfectly delivered for Newbury and headed powerfully into the top corner by Johnson arriving at the near post for his second making it 1-3.
The second half was mainly fought out in midfield areas as Union tried to stay in the cup, they got a second goal with 10 minutes left as Caister were caught napping. Soon after 16 year old goalkeeper Chris Hollis produced an absolutely astonishing save at full stretch as the ball looked to be heading into the top corner of Caister's net denying Union an equaliser and earning applause from both sides. The game was played out with no more scares as Caister’s defence of Barwick, Clark, Rowley and Cork remained strong as they had done all game. This was a good victory against an organised side which puts Caister into the quarter final. MOM was Thomas Rowley with a goal to cap a fine, commanding performance.
