Caister FC Reserves 1-2 Norwich CEYMS
When Caister arrived for this important game it quickly became evident there was no Referee for the fixture when a CEYMS official asked the Caister management if they had brought a whistle with them!!! A CEYMS ex-player eventually took charge of the game but after only 5 minutes he awarded CEYMS a weak free-kick, booked Newbury for not retreating 10 yards despite no CEYMS player wanting to take the kick then gave a penalty from the resulting delivery. Nobody, including CEYMS management could justify the decisions. The Caister players were disgusted and tried to get the game abandoned but after the Caister bench had restored some order the penalty was taken and converted. Caister with their minds not on the game found it difficult to get any momentum going as Jarvis and Crane were left isolated as strikers. CEYMS sitting second in the league were obviously a very talented young side and they scored a second with 25 minutes on the clock with a well-taken goal, which lobbed Hollis from 35 yards.
After the interval Caister were much more in control and keen to get back in the game, and with only 10 minutes of the second half gone Colin Jarvis ran onto a through ball to fire an excellent low drive past the keeper to make it 2-1. For the remainder of the half CEYMS were reduced to half chances on the break as Caister camped themselves in the CEYMS half, at one point having 5 consecutive corners. In the dying seconds with some desperate efforts the best chance fell to Dan Crawley who blasted over the bar in the congested penalty area, Caister however couldn’t find the equaliser that their second half performance deserved. The result was disappointing taking into account the penalty decision but Caister should feel pleased with the way they gallantly played despite the controversy.
MOM James Cork. Caister Line Up: Hollis, Barwick (Mason 75), Cork, Lines, Rowley, Moore, D.Crane (D.Crawley 80), Newbury (Heller 60), Jarvis, Crane, Ward.
