Caister Reserves welcomed Thorpe Village to Allendale Road for their last home game of the season. Despite just leaving an upbeat dressing room Caister found themselves two nil down inside 7 minutes. Some poor defending of looping crosses allowed two Thorpe strikers to score from close range somewhat shell shocking Caister and during this time Caister also lost defender Paul Jacobs who was replaced by Barwick. With over 80 minutes to play Caister couldn’t accept defeat so early and gradually played their way into the game. Good work from Garrett Ward found his brother Anton in the box, his fierce shot was well saved by the Thorpe keeper but Danny Heller was on hand to side foot home into the empty net just before half time to give Caister a lifeline. Caister set about trying to get their talented forward players on the ball with quick pass and move football to defy Thorpe’s more physical and heavy approach. Within minutes of the restart Danny Heller capped a fine display by striking a half volley into the roof of the net from 20 yards to equalise for Caister. Soon after Colin Jarvis got a well deserved goal with a superb low strike when one on one with the keeper. Now with the lead the flair players of Caister were in their stride, Heller, Gaz, Anton, Shellard and Murray pulled the strings to put on a fantastic second half display. These players were well backed up by another brilliant defensive performance from Allard, Thompson, Crane and Barwick. Caister made it four with the move of the game as the ball was played out through the full backs all the way to the front line and Garrett Ward carried on a long run to perfectly lob the advancing keeper. With time running out Lines was introduced to seal things up in midfield but Caister still had the energy for a fifth. Ben Murray who was having another good game in midfield rounded a defender on the edge of the box and curled a fine effort with the outside of his right foot to make in 5-2. With time running out right back Allard crafted a chance for himself as he overlapped with Heller but his shot hit the post. In the final seconds Caister looked to have scored a 6th goal but to the amazement of the sizable on looking crowd Neil Bowman blasted over from 1 yard out. This was a fantastic second half display from a very talented Caister side, it just goes to show that your mentality against such opponents counts for everything. MOM Thompson who was massive at the back. Next Match Swaffham Town Res. Away Sat 26th April 3pm KO.
