Report

With 8 players unavailable for various reasons Caister’s Reserves gained a valuable point away to Martham and could have left with all 3 had lady luck been on their side. The first real chance fell to Caister, Player Manager Mason curled a left footed freekick which hit the inside of the post the rebound went to Colin Jarvis but the ball got stuck under his foot with the goal gapping and Martham cleared the danger. Martham took the lead when Danny Gowing headed them in front after latching on to a wind assisted long throw totally unmarked. Caister always looked like they had goals in them and a move involving Mason and Jarvis set up Anton Ward who slotted an equaliser on the stroke of half time. In the first few minutes of the second half a Garrett Ward cross was headed down by Dean Allard and Colin Jarvis volleyed home his 20th of the season to give Caister the lead. With new found confidence Caister created numerous clear cut one on one chances most of which fell to Colin Jarvis who unfortunately found Thornley in Martham’s goal in outstanding form. Somewhat against the run of play Martham grabbed an equaliser after winning a tackle in the six yard box which trickled past Hollis. Shortly afterwards Caister right back Barwick found himself in the opposition’s penalty area and he hit a good volley to give Caister the lead again. Jarvis again had 3 more gilt edge chances to wrap up the victory but again was found to be second best to Thornley. Caister were made to pay for these missed chances as the persistent Martham side got an equaliser through Ian Smith who almost broke the net with a fantastic finish in the last five minutes of the game. MOM has to be Andy Thornley in Martham’s goal who earned a point for his side. This week Thorpe Village away meet Old Hall Carpark at 1pm sharp. Any call offs let us know ASAP.
