Report

Caister vets progressed to the 2nd round of the Norfolk County Cup with a 3 – 1 home win over the Sole and Heel.  This was a solid performance from Caister who were generally in control throughout the match although they only wrapped up the victory in the last 10 minutes.  Caister started well and took an early lead when after a couple of shots were blocked the ball fell to Dan Sims who drove home the loose ball.  The visitors responded soon after with a good volley at the back post that went in off the bar.  Caister went back into the lead after 25 minutes when Neil Bowman lashed home a 30 yard left foot half-volley with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.  Caister were confident at the break that they would progress as the visitors had caused them relatively few problems.  The second half continued in the same vein with Caister in control although they weren’t creating a raft of chances.  They eventually made sure of the points when good hassling by the front men resulted in Sole giving away possession to Sims who sidestepped a defender and beat the keeper from the edge of the box with a good drive.  Caister then had a goal controversially disallowed for offside when Bowman flicked home a Sims shot.  M.O.M. Martin Andrews in his first appearance of the season who ensured Caister always looked in control at the back.

Caister visit Cromer on Sunday in the 1st Round of the League Plate.  This is a 1:30 KO, meet at the Caister field at 11:30.
