Caister ‘A’ were once again beaten 3 – 1 at home by a good GY International side, this time in the HA Holmes League Division 1 Cup. The final score was fair on the balance of play but Caister were disappointed to lose having led up until the stroke of half-time. New manager Adrian Wells had an immediate impact on team selection as a more youthful line-up took to the field. The visitors started strongly and immediately put Caister under pressure but Caister weathered the storm and managed to get a foothold in the game. They took an early lead when Danny Banthorpe floated a free-kick to the far post where Tom Steadman headed home his first goal in adult football. The visitors started to get back on top but the Lifeboatmen managed to survive without too many major alarms until injury time when a visiting midfielder wasn’t closed down quickly enough and his shot from 20 yards swerved in the air and beat Kevin Stark. Wells made a couple of changes at the break to try and inject a bit more energy into the home side but it was International who took the lead soon after the restart. The forward broke through and drove the ball in off the bar from inside the area. The lead was doubled not long afterwards with another great strike. It looked like the danger had passed as Caister had blocked a couple of efforts but the forward turned and fired into the top corner. Caister tried manfully to get back into the match but they failed to create any real clear-cut chances to reduce the deficit. M.O.M. Steadman.
