Caister travelled to Long Stratton for their first game of the season knowing that this would be a difficult fixture against a team that narrowly missed promotion last season.
The game started evenly matched with chances at both ends, however, Long Stratton went 1 – 0 up, when the unlucky James Corke put the ball through his own net. Caister pushed hard for the rest of the half but chances were few and far between, as the game descended into a long ball battle.
At half-time it was emphasised to Caister that they needed to get the ball wide to expose the Long Stratton full backs and create chances. This tactic paid off when a looping cross/shot from Kieran Hack found the far corner of the Long Stratton goal to equalise.
There were then chances at both ends, however, the ball ran through the Caister defence for a Long Stratton striker to latch onto to score the winner. Both Barry Crane and Kevin Jarvis had late opportunities to pull the score level, however, they were denied by the Long Stratton goalie.
Final score 2 – 1.
A good team performance and one that could be built on. Only 27 games to go!
